The SSSC has defined three categories of day care of children service workers. Which of these best describes your current role?
Lead Practitioner / Manager
Managers/lead practitioners in day care of children services are defined as workers who hold responsibilities for the overall development, management and quality assurance of service provision including the supervision of staff and the management of resources.
The term ‘manager’ shall be taken to include ‘lead practitioner’ as the responsibilities for both positions are the same.
Practitioner
Practitioners in day care of children services are defined as workers who identify and meet the care, support and learning needs of children and contribute to the development and quality assurance of informal learning activities and/or curriculum. They may also be responsible for the supervision of other workers.
Support Worker
Support workers are defined as workers who have delegated responsibility for providing care and support to children. |

Applicants to the Register who do not hold the required qualifications may, if they meet all the other eligibility criteria such as evidence of good character, be granted registration subject to the condition that they achieve the required qualification within a specific period of time - normally within the first three years of their registration. |
