Care and support in Local Authority Social Work Team

Local authority social work teams usually include social workers, social work assistants, and occupational therapists.  Local authorities also provide services included in other categories, such as care homes for adults and care homes for children and young people.  There is a range of other services that local authorities may provide, such as addiction services, which employ care and support workers at various levels. 

Local authorities provide or commission services in most of the areas covered in the services section of this web-site.  They also employ social work assistants to work alongside social workers, and care and support workers in some specialist areas such as the secure care of young people, addiction, homelessness, welfare rights and community development.
